Attention Parents/Guardians of 8th grade afternoon car riders!
As Sports Complex Road is being repaved, 8th grade students must be picked up in the front loop using the 7th grade pick-up line. You will enter through the front, go left, follow the arrows, and pick up at the art/band room door. Please anticipate this change until Monday.
Students is Ms. Robinson's sixth grade math class started the year with a data cycle unit. Students participated in a data talk, collected their own data, and then created the appropriate graphs to represent the data. Not only did they learn more about one another, they built math skills!
Today, Wednesday, September 4, we have a home soccer game and a home volleyball game. Both games will begin at 5:00 pm. If you are planning to attend the volleyball game, the front doors will open at 4:15 pm. We ask that you leave all bags in your car. We do not charge admission, and once you enter, you may not re-enter.
We also have an away girls' basketball game in Northumberland. Northumberland does charge an entry fee, and tickets must be purchased using the link below. They do not accept cash.

As a reminder, students may not stay after school to attend as spectators for athletic events, however, they may return under the supervision of an adult.
ParentGuidance.org is an online platform designed to assist those who care for children by addressing and enhancing mental health wellness and self-care. Services include one-on-one coaching, "Ask A Therapist" options, and webinars offered throughout the school year for families. SCW girls’ basketball tryouts will be held tomorrow, Tuesday, and Wednesday after school. Students must bring a note giving permission to stay after school and ride a transfer bus to MES along with an up-to-date physical. Tryouts end at 5:00 and students must be picked up at Middlesex Elementary School.
Golf tryouts will be held Tuesday and Thursday after school. Students must bring a note giving permission to ride an activity bus to the Piankatank Golf Course along with an up-to-date physical. Students must be picked up at the golf course at 5:00 pm.

Beginning Monday, August 26, 2024, 8th graders who are interested in conditioning and weightlifting with the varsity football team may come to MHS on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays. Students must have a current VHSL physical and have a note giving permission to ride a transfer bus to MHS. Students must be picked up at MHS at 5:30 PM.
Tryouts for SCW's girls' basketball will be held next week (Monday, Tuesday, & Wednesday) after school until 5:00 pm. Students must bring a note to stay giving permission to take a transfer bus to tryout at MES. Tryouts end at 5:00 pm.
SCW co-ed soccer and SCW girls' volleyball tryouts will be held after school Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Please send in a note giving your child permission to stay after school. Tryouts will end at 5:00 pm. Pick-up for volleyball tryouts will be in the front loop. Pick-up for soccer will be at the soccer field behind SCW.
SCW golf tryouts will be Tuesday, August 27 and Thursday, August 29.

Middle School 101 was a success! Rising sixth graders had a chance to meet teachers, tour the building, learn middle school routines and expectations , and most important, practice locker opening!
At Monday night's school board meeting, the board accepted the retirement of Dr. Kim Parks. We wish her well in her next endeavor with the U.S. Coast Guard!
Additionally, we are excited to share that the board approved Ms. Brittin Payne as the new assistant principal at SCW. Ms. Payne completed all of her K-12 education in MCPS and is a proud graduate of Middlesex High School and Longwood University. Brittin has taught both career and life readiness and health and PE at SCW for the past six years.
We look forward to continuing the great work in this division with Ms. Payne in her new role!

The 8th Grade Outlaw Dragster Challenge is back for the 3rd Trimester Technology Education students. For 5th block, Zeeke Koontz had the fastest time of 0.618 seconds with an average speed of 56.267 mph. For 6th block, Vincent Santos had the fastest time of 0.709 seconds with an average speed of 49.045 mph. The student with the fastest dragster of the entire school year gets their name engraved on the 8th Grade Outlaw Dragster Challenge plaque in the SCW Technology Classroom. Congratulations Zeeke Koontz for having the fastest dragster of the 2023-2024 school year. You are now a permanent part of SCW Technology Education history.
